The renovation honored the home’s past while reversing its focus, letting it look outside instead of in. Now, sun flows in through large expanses of glass, not least in the once-dark double-height great room, which opens to a newly improved enclosed porch through five sets of French doors.

Elsewhere on the property, a three-bay carriage house—one of whose bays steps down and back to minimize its size—hosts a guest suite on its upper floor. The building’s position creates a partial enclosure for a new pool, and its gambrel roof and shingle-style exterior mirror those of the main house.
