As the Masters Tournament comes to a close, we celebrate a beloved project overlooking the storied Newport Country Club's 12th hole. In a competitive bidding process, all other architects recommended tearing down the original historic house. Recognizing the homeowners' affection for the residence and the potential that lied within, our team saw the opportunity to protect a piece of history, infusing it with new life to serve future generations.

Overlooking Newport Country Club with views to the ocean and marsh, Ocean Lodge was raised to meet FEMA requirements, yet its front façade and stature remain virtually unchanged. Rather than erase the past, the renovation honors the home’s 1938 heritage, with a considered landscape preserving its timeless relationship to the land.

As attention turns to Augusta, we’re revisiting a Newport favorite overlooking the 12th hole at Newport Country Club. Where others proposed a teardown, we saw something worth keeping. The original Ocean Lodge was carefully preserved and expanded, honoring its history while opening the home to the landscape beyond. Today, from the upper deck to the motor court and carriage house, the residence is oriented to the course, the coast, and the quiet rhythm of Newport.
