The clients’ love of the ocean led to the creation of this year-round waterfront residence, which takes as its inspiration the classic New England summer houses of the turn of the twentieth century. From that inspiration arose this shingle-style home accented with local fieldstone—a material that lends rustic warmth, especially in the colder seasons.
Painted a vivid coral, the front door establishes a fun, energetic vibrancy that extends inside and reflects its inhabitants, a young couple with small children. The foyer opens to a large living and dining area whose three sets of French doors lead to a back deck embraced by gambrel wings.
A side porch links to an ocean-view pool with a cabana and an outdoor kitchen, and a simple boardwalk connects to the shore. In summer, the family spends their days at the beach or pool or in the backyard, while a glass-enclosed porch provides water views and warmth in winter.
“My husband and I have always felt a connection to the ocean. So, we felt an obligation to create a home where every inch, indoors, and out, feels like it’s meant to be lived in and enjoyed. It’s comfortable and warm, and the scale makes it feel so inviting. And when people walk in the front door and see that immediately, it makes me really happy.”
