Newport State of Mind

Newport, RI

Clients with an historic property overlooking the 12th hole at Newport Country Club surrounded by unparalleled ocean views and protected marshland approached with a problem: their site was breathtaking, but the disjointed 1938 house and separate pool cabana lived more for the past than for the future. They desired a summer home for modern day.

In a competitive bidding process, all other architects recommended tearing the structures down. Recognizing the homeowner’s personal affection for the residence and the potential that lied within, the team at Patrick Ahearn Architect saw the opportunity to protect a piece of Newport history, infusing it with new life to serve future generations.

The result is a reinvigorated Ocean Lodge, which underwent a transformation respectful of the past and an interior redesign complementary to the home’s history.
