Hatch Road Stable Renovation

Vineyard Haven, MA

This renovation and restoration of a century-old carriage house turned a cramped and convoluted building with limited curb appeal into a warm, graciously flowing family home. Innovations included the relocation of the front door, the addition of a portico with a balcony above, and a new attached carriage house whose gable echoes the original.

To maximize water views, natural light, and connection to the outdoors at the harbor-facing rear of the house, the renovation extended and partially enclosed an existing porch with screens and added three sets of French doors. This, together with a new large balcony above, doubled the available outdoor-living space.

Inside, a large but welcoming centrally located foyer initiates a flowing floor plan whose spaces are now optimized for entertaining. These include a new kitchen and dining area that open to an enhanced family room, all of which share a wet bar and easily connect to the porches and lawn.

Upstairs, the reorganized floor plan comfortably accommodates four bedrooms with en suite baths, a significant improvement over the single previous bathroom. A casual lounge area, whose French doors open to the balcony above the new front entry, tempts children of all ages, confirming the home’s family-friendly style.
