This late-nineteenth-century Victorian home was tripled in size, even as the vernacular of its original aesthetic was maintained. Doing so required the creation of a series of elements that could house the clients’ very large program while simultaneously respecting the scale and hierarchy of the existing building.
The resulting ensemble achieves this end by featuring the original tower as one bookend of the expanded house, with another newly created tower anchoring an addition opposite. Interior finishes, including wall panels and moldings, are as highly detailed as the exterior, making for a seamless celebration of the house’s Victorian character.
