Vineyard Harbor Overlook
Vineyard Haven Harbor, Massachusetts
Perched above bustling Vineyard Haven Harbor, this late-nineteenth-century captain’s house needed significant restoration and renovation to correct structural challenges and create a new but historically motivated home within the original. After reframing the house with steel and pre-engineered lumber, the interior was reimagined to encourage indoor-outdoor, twenty-first-century living.

This reorganization opened the back to wonderful harbor views through three stories of windows and French doors, a broad second-story deck, and two ground-floor porches leading to a lawn. A mid-twentieth-century attached garage, meanwhile, now reads as a carriage house, one whose vernacular architecture feels in keeping with the home’s seafaring past.
