Upland Residence

Wellesley, Massachusetts

This turn-of-the-twentieth-century Colonial house lacked some of the storybook charm of its older but similarly-styled neighbors. It was completely but subtly reimagined inside and out to enhance existing shingle-style details, such as the portico, and to add new ones, including the fieldstone chimneys and foundation and a variety of multipaned windows.

Inside, the home’s closed-off rooms were opened up, allowing flow from the front door to the rear covered porch. In addition to the porch, a new raised patio off the kitchen celebrates the outdoors and encourages alfresco living.
