31 South Water Street

Edgartown Historic District, Massachusetts

Over the years, modifications stripped the historic value from this waterfront, clapboard-fronted, two-and-a-half-story, Federal Colonial former captain’s home, built between 1886 and 1898. Thanks to newly discovered late-nineteenth-century photographs of the house, a visual language could be developed for a restoration and extension that brought it back to life.
