English Country House

Timeless Translation

Staying true to their home’s original architecture, a Massachusetts couple makes way for a growing family and a generous serving of ever-charming English style

Leaving a Boston townhouse and its contemporary Italian interiors behind, Patrick and Marsha Ahearn set off on a design journey that spanned the Atlantic and stepped back in time. After moving their blended family into a modest 1936 ivy-covered English stone cottage in suburban Wellesley, Massachusetts, Patrick, an architect, and Marsha, an interior designer, put their yin-and-yang talents into play. Over the course of 17 years, the couple doubled the home’s square footage to accommodate the needs of their family of seven and incorporated whopping dollops of across-the-pond style.
