Wellesley Farms, MA

This newly built home translated the stone and shingle vernacular of its nearly hundred-year-old neighborhood into a house whose exterior projects a more modern feeling. A range of timeless details, however, including arched-top windows, a windowed stair tower, and window boxes, ensure that it feels of a piece with its surroundings.

Built on a double lot that was enhanced with extensive landscaping, the house features a solid-to-void relationship that contemporizes traditional fenestration. Abundant large windows on the façade—not least in the generously sized central stair tower to the right of the front door—allow the interiors to be flooded with natural light.
