Grosse Pointe Yacht Club Sailing Center

Grosse Pointe, MI

Set on the shores of Lake St. Clair, the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club is one of North America’s quintessential yacht clubs. For over one hundred years, its iconic Mediterranean Revival building has welcomed members, but the organization never had a place where the next generation could learn to sail. This center provides that.

The new facility, which perches at the end of the club’s marina, takes its aesthetic inspiration from the existing building. Its cream-colored stucco walls, white trim, red Spanish tile–like roof, and central copula remain consistent with the original, perfectly capturing its character and spirit.

Designed to serve multiple functions, the building houses the club’s junior sailing programs in the summer and provides space for skeet shooting and events in the off-season. In the warmer months, garage-style glass doors open to the dock, and even in winter, the building glows at night like a beacon floating in the water.
