Set on the shores of Lake St. Clair, the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club is one of North America’s preeminent boating clubs. For more than one hundred years, its iconic Mediterranean Revival building has welcomed members, and to celebrate its centennial capital improvements were addressed that would benefit families of all ages.
In the original clubhouse, a complete renovation was undertaken to improve the program for today’s discerning membership and elevate the overall interior experience. Impressive stonework was maintained, but every primary space was re-detailed with now-abundant architectural millwork and trim.
The original eatery was gutted and reimagined as The Spinnaker Club with a premium nautical theme, and a function room was transformed into a second bar and restaurant. Patrick Ahearn Architect was responsible for not only the architecture but also the complete interior design of these spaces.
In a forthcoming phase, the club will construct an accompanying tennis facility for which plans were also drafted.
