Carriage Way Greek Revival

Amherst, NH

This 1850 Greek Revival residence is prominently sited in an historic district on a charming carriage way. When our clients purchased the property more than 170 years after its original construction, condition within its structures varied greatly. The main house needed to be reimagined to live for modern day while the barn at the rear of the property was uninhabitable.

A sensitive renovation approved by the town’s historic commission preserved the antique exterior character of the house, while adding historically appropriate interior detailing and trim. The completely reconfigured floor plan makes new use of a connector wing with a vaulted ceiling, allowing for dramatic volume within a new kitchen and dining room. Gracious spaces including a new family room, parlor, and bedroom chambers all support the home’s historic context while allowing the property to live the way we wish today.
