Mystic Lake Overlook

This classic American foursquare home, built in 1880 overlooking Mystic Lake, just north of Boston, offered its new owners both quiet country living and easy city access. Mid-twentieth-century renovations left its interiors closed and convoluted, but a gut renovation opened them and modernized the house while maintaining its original spirit.

The carriage house with views of Mystic Lake looks like a restored version of an existing one. Built of repurposed beams and barn siding, it includes a two-car garage and a rustic, wood-clad bar that leads to a bluestone patio with an outdoor kitchen and lake vistas. The bonus music and hangout space above opens through French doors to a Romeo and Juliet balcony.
