The new home joins an ensemble of three neighboring nineteenth-century houses. Each of the existing buildings is in the Greek Revival style and sits at a slightly canted angle to the street, rather than parallel to it. The new residence was designed to echo the antique ones in both ways.
In keeping with the vintage spirit, the new house evidences a variety of carefully considered period and stylistically appropriate elements, including the wide corner boards and the gables’ cloverleaf windows. Taken together, details such as these ensure that the house feels of a piece with the original buildings.
Wings at the back—including a carriage house that looks like it was built separately and later connected to the main structure—suggest the house was added on to over time. The third floor was designed to capture the wonderful views, especially from the guest bedroom, of the village in the distance.
