Although this newly built house has such contemporary features as abundant square footage and extensive indoor-outdoor living opportunities, it feels entirely in keeping with its nineteenth-century neighborhood, comprised largely of relatively modest Greek Revival and Federal Colonial homes. A number of carefully considered design decisions make this sleight of hand possible.
From the street, only a single gable, with a dormer and small adjacent carriage house, is visible. The overall program was divided among several other volumes that open up behind this central gable. Like the carriage house, these read from the exterior as wings that could have been added over the decades.
All the indoor-outdoor living spaces sit behind the house, entirely hidden from public view. A covered porch extends from the kitchen and dining area, with decks above accessible from several bedrooms. A cabana and swimming pool surrounded by gardens complete the ensemble, ensuring its status as an ideal summertime retreat.
