Barnes Hill Residence

Concord, MA

To increase the curb appeal, charm, and character of this one-story 1930s ranch, it was reimagined in a classic Cape Cod vernacular. The existing building’s rambling nature inspired a new carriage house and mudroom wing, which was carefully rendered to look like an original outbuilding that was later connected to the main house.

Together with several other appropriate additions, this new wing creates various intimate outdoor living spaces, including terraces and courtyards, accessed by French doors that flood the home with natural light.

The existing interiors were gutted, upgraded with quality materials and finishes, and rearranged to enhance flow with the additions and improve views of the relandscaped rear yard. A new story-and-a-half-tall great room and master suite feature vaulted ceilings punctuated with clerestory dormers to allow the sun to bathe the interiors.

A new solarium, with antique brick flooring and skylights, further brings the sun and the outdoors in.
