Last week an intimate gathering of guests was invited to visit the Myles Standish Hotel residence featured in Patrick’s book History Reinterpreted to experience its magic and presence firsthand. Hosted in conjunction with creative landscape designers a Blade of Grass and luxury custom homebuilders Colclough Construction, attendees were treated to an informative walk-and-talk around the property. Highlighting the home’s details and romanticism, the complementing landscape’s materials and perspective, and the efforts required to renovate a structure of such a vintage, the discussion was led by Patrick himself and included commentary from landscape architect Pete Cadieux and veteran builder Steve Colclough.
Afterwards, all enjoyed a warm reception on the rear terrace. With the sounds of Pat Gaulin’s jazz trio wafting through the air along with the crack of oysters being shucked and the clink of glasses toasting to a beautiful evening, the property once again played host to a celebratory event much the way it would have done in its heyday at the turn of the century. Mother Nature all but added her applause via a cotton candy colored sky above Duxbury Bay as the sun set.
Patrick looks forward to meeting enthusiasts and members of the public at the next stop on his History Reinterpreted book tour October 19th at the Duxbury Bay Maritime School. Visit our event page for more information and to RSVP.
