Harbor House

Edgartown Village Historic District, MA

Set on a narrow parcel of land that slopes down towards Edgartown Harbor from the street, this house has the look of the late seventeenth century but was crafted in the twenty-first. Instead of a grand captain’s house, our historic narrative imagined it as the carriage house for the adjacent property, built in 1682.

To accommodate more square footage, the design was conceived to look like the “original” building had been slowly expanded over time, giving a sense of implied history. The harbor side, conceived as the most recent addition, takes particular advantage of its setting, with two stories of covered porches and a private deck off the master bathroom that provide views of the water.
